Samsara provides Asset Tracking solutions that are certified to operate in hazardous environments, specifically at the Class 1, Division 2 (C1D2) level. This certification is a common requirement for fleets in chemical, oil and gas, and other industries that require their equipment to operate under tight tolerances.
The following powered and unpowered Asset Gateway (AG) models are C1D2-certified and include appropriate certification labeling:
Model |
Required Accessories |
---|---|
AG26 |

AG46P |
Separate bracket accessory (ACC-IG-AHZB AG46P) |
AG46 |

AG52 |
Separate bracket accessory (ACC-AG-BHZB) |
AG53 |
Separate bracket accessory (ACC-AG-BHZB-B) |
Note
AGs manufactured before the certificate was obtained do not qualify as C1D2-certified. You must instead use the C1D2-certified models that include labeling and necessary accessories.
A product with a Class 1 Division 2 (C1D2) certification indicates that the product is allowed to be used in potentially hazardous environments. C1D2 locations are considered hazardous areas where explosion or fire hazards exist because of flammable gases, vapors, or liquids that are part of the business operation. Examples of hazardous work settings include locations where flammable or explosive gasses, certain chemicals, airborne fibers, or vapors could be excessive in abnormal circumstances.
Under the National Fire Protection Association’s Publication 70 and Occupational Safety and Health Administration definitions, the difference between C1D1 and C1D2 locations is how the gases or vapors are contained or used.
In a C1D2 location, volatile flammable liquids or gases are used but are normally confined in closed containers or closed systems. It also may be a place where ignitable concentrations of gases or vapors are prevented with positive mechanical ventilation. They only escape in the event of an accident or breakdown. Or a C1D2 location may be next to a C1D1 location, and the ignitable concentrations of gases or vapors might be occasionally present unless prevented with adequate positive-pressure ventilation with effective safeguards against ventilation failure.
Ignitable substances are organized in the following classes:
-
Class 1: Flammable gases, vapors, and liquids.
-
Class 2: Combustible dusts.
-
Class 3: Ignitable fibers and flyings
To further classify how often the flammable or explosive substances are likely to be present under normal operating conditions, substances are organized into divisions:
-
Division 1: Flammable substances are continually present or are likely to exist under normal operating conditions.
-
Division 2: Flammable substances are not likely to exist under normal operating conditions.
