We know how frustrating asset theft can be. To make it easier to track and locate your equipment, review the steps below:
Real-time GPS tracking is always on for vehicle and powered asset gateways. From your Samsara dashboard, you can search for a specific gateway and see its location when it is powered on.
GPS data is collected automatically in Full and Moderate power modes. These modes run while the vehicle is moving and for three hours after it stops. You can adjust the VG power mode settings if you want tracking to continue longer after the vehicle is off.
By default, asset gateways (AGs) send GPS updates every 12 hours to save battery. You can view an AG’s location in the Samsara dashboard the same way you view a vehicle gateway (VG) GPS location.
If needed, you can change how often the AG checks in with the Samsara cloud with these settings:
-
Report location based on movement: Enable Wake on Motion and Check-in Schedule to log when the asset starts and stops moving.
-
Increase check-in frequency for lost or stolen assets: Enable Find My Asset to receive more frequent location data.
Note
Changes you make to the check-in timer take effect the next time the AG connects to the cloud, usually at the next scheduled check-in. However, a check-in can occur sooner if the device is enabled to Wake on Motion or if you do a manual check-in to troubleshoot check-in issues.
The AT11 wirelessly connects to nearby Vehicle Gateways (VGs) or Asset Gateways (AGs). You can monitor the asset location from the Asset Details or Inventory Report.
You can also configure movement or geofence alerts so that you are notified if the tagged asset unexpectedly leaves a defined area.
