Driver Event Review is a self-guided review experience built directly into the Samsara Driver App. It replaces the legacy Virtual Coach with a streamlined interface that helps drivers reflect on safety and compliance violations—on their own time. This feature builds trust and encourages engagement.
There are several options for customizing Driver Event Review settings:

Choose the notification method by which drivers are notified:

Mobile Device Push Notifications and In-App Cues: (Samsara Driver App users only) Drivers receive both phone alerts and in-app prompts about events to review.

Driver In-App Cues Only: (Samsara Driver App users only) Notifications are limited to in-app prompts to minimize potential distractions for drivers.

SMS Notification and In-App Cues: (Samsara Driver App or Driver Portal) Drivers receive a text with a link to access shared events (recommended for Driver Portal users).

Adjust driver permissions for marking events as coached:

By default, drivers can mark shared events as coached, determining whether a manager-led conversation is necessary.

Alternatively, you can enforce that only fleet administrators mark events as coached.

Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

Go to Safety > Coaching. If necessary, enable Driver Event Review.
This will enable driver event review organization-wide and provide access to its guidance and support; disabling restricts it for all users.

Configure any of the desired virtual coach settings:

Configure Workflow to add as a task in Samsara Driver App workflows.

Choose the Notification Style on how and where to alert drivers.

Decide how shared events are coached.

Allow drivers to raise events for review.

Assign events in the following ways:
-
Share a single safety event from the Safety Inbox using the Send to Driver feature or share multiple safety events from a review session.

Share events from the HOS Violation or Idling page.
Tip
If events aren’t appearing in the Samsara Driver App, verify that Driver Event Review is configured correctly and drivers have app access.
Drivers can access and complete reviews in the Samsara Driver App from the Samsara Driver App Home Screen, Inbox, or from the You tab.
Drivers can review events grouped by behaviors—like idling—one by one in the Event Review feed. Drivers must fully view all events for a behavior before they can acknowledge it. If enabled, they can also request manager follow-up by adding a comment to specific events.

If enabled, drivers can ask for manager follow-up on specific safety events. The driver's assigned coach will receive an email when a driver requests a review.
To resolve an event marked for follow-up:

From the Samsara dashboard, go to Safety > Safety Inbox.

Go to the Driver Requested Review tab and identify events with the Review Requested status.

Review the trip details, read driver comments, and watch the footage, as needed.

Take one of the following actions:

Recognize Driver

Dismiss
-
Mark as Coached
-
Reassign Driver
After you take action, Samsara delivers a notification to the driver's Inbox in the Samsara Driver App.

Driver Event Review respects your organization’s privacy mode and blurring configurations.
