To communicate with Drivers, you can send messages from the Samsara dashboard to the Samsara Driver App.
In the Samsara Driver App, drivers can access message history in Messages ( ). When a new message is received, the envelope displays a red indicator until the driver reads the message. To enable or disable push notifications, drivers can manage notifications from the device settings.
While the driver has a Driving status, the Samsara Driver App prevents drivers from accessing their messages and displays a warning if the driver attempts to access Messages while driving.
In the Samsara dashboard, notifications for incoming messages display as a counter next to Messages ( ).
Message history displays for 30 days in the Samsara Driver App and 90 days in the Samsara dashboard. Messages are stored for 6 months accessible by API.
You can send and view direct messages to drivers in the Samsara dashboard. Messages can be sent to both individual drivers and groups of drivers by name or by tag. When sending messages using tags, Samsara delivers the message to all drivers added to the tag.
To send or view a message to a single driver:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, select the Messages icon ().
-
Select or search for the driver. You can also use tags to narrow the list of drivers.
-
Enter the message and click Send.
Samsara logs both incoming and outgoing messages.
To send a message to a group of drivers:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, select the Messages Icon ().
-
Click Compose message.
-
Select the individual drivers or tags to whom you want to send messages.
Note
Only drivers directly associated to the tag that you select will receive the message. If you set up nested tags, selecting a parent tag will not deliver the message to drivers associated only to the child tag.
-
Enter the message and click Send.
Samsara logs the message for each selected driver.
Warning
Messages cannot be deleted.
