Samsara integrates with your Caterpillar powered equipment with just a click of a button. By connecting your VisionLink account, Samsara can pull location, engine hours, fuel level, odometer, and fault code information about your equipment.

The integration provides the following features:

View current and historical location, engine hours, fuel level, odometer, and fault code information about your powered equipment

Set alerts to receive notifications about geofence crossing or critical fault code firing

Schedule usage-based or time-based preventative maintenance schedules on your powered equipment

Track all of your assets in one platform in order to measure asset usage and improve efficiency (for a full list of all reports, see Asset Status and Tracking)

Caterpillar: The Samsara partnership with CAT enables Samsara to pull data from CAT’s VisionLink platform. This feature requires the following items:

Caterpillar equipment with VisionLink hardware pre-installed
If you are unsure if your equipment can access this feature, please contact your Caterpillar dealer to see if VisionLink is included in your current package.

Active VisionLink account

Connect Pro or a higher-tier subscription for all CAT devices to ensure accurate data representation in Samsara

From the Samsara dashboard, navigate to Settings > Apps.

Click Caterpillar and enter your VisionLink API credentials.
Note
These are distinct from your VisionLink login credentials. If you do not know your API credentials, please contact your VisionLink administrator or dealer to create one.

Select all pieces of equipment that you want to sync between Samsara and VisionLink and then click Activate Devices.
Samsara will poll CAT information every 15 mins or whenever available. It may take up to 30 minutes to sync between the two systems initially.
Repeat this step to add more VisionLink equipment to your Samsara account.
Caterpillar rolled out upgrades to their API infrastructure at the end of January 2023. To complete the upgrade and avoid any service interruptions, a few steps are required by an administrator of your Samsara account. The entire process takes less than five minutes to complete.

Locate the AEMP 2.0 credentials issued by Caterpillar via email.
The subject of this email is
** SAVE this Email ** – These Credentials are key to accessing your recent Client credentials and secret request for ISO15143 AEMP.Note
If you did not receive AEMP 2.0 credentials issued by Caterpillar, contact your local Caterpillar dealership. They will be able to assist you in issuing AEMP 2.0 credentials.

Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings. -
Select Organization > Apps.

In the Search Bar, search for
Caterpillar AEMP 2.0.Note
If you do not see Caterpillar AEMP 2.0 in the search results, contact your Samsara sales representative for additional help.

Select Install Caterpillar AEMP 2.0.

Input the credential information provided by Caterpillar in email.

Select Enable.
After these steps are complete, Samsara will begin upgrading all your Caterpillar assets. This upgrade process may take roughly 30 minutes to complete depending on the size of your Caterpillar fleet.
