Follow these steps to install the in-cab speaker in your vehicle.
-
Gather your equipment and components:
Collect all necessary items shown in the reference graphic, along with any required tools.
-
Install VG:
-
If a VG is already installed, proceed to the next step.
-
If a VG is not yet installed, install it using the appropriate installation guide for your vehicle’s VG diagnostics cable: Vehicle Gateway (VG) Installation Guides by Cable
Pause the installation when reaching the step related to connecting accessory devices, and continue with the instructions below.
-
-
Identify an install location for the speaker:
-
Choose a flat, non-porous surface such as rigid plastic, glass, or metal. Avoid fabric surfaces.
-
Do not install the speaker over airbags or other safety features.
-
The recommended location is on the top corner of the windshield near the A-pillar on the driver’s side.
-
Ensure the speaker is not muffled and does not interfere with driver movement.
-
Ensure the installation location allows for clean cable routing to the VG, considering the ~10ft (3-meter) cable length.
-
-
Clean the mounting surface:
-
If mounting on glass or metal: Use a 70% alcohol wipe to clean the surface, remove dust and contaminants, and let it dry completely.
-
If mounting on plastic: Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust and contaminants.
-
-
Mount the device:
-
Remove the red liner from the VHB adhesive using the pull tab.
-
Firmly press the speaker into the installation location for at least 30 seconds, ensuring even compression.
-
-
Route the in-cab speaker USB cable to the VG:
-
Secure the cable using the provided cable clips and zip ties.
-
Tuck the cable under the windshield glass seal or along the A-pillar seal, avoiding interference with safety systems such as airbags.
-
-
Plug the in-cab speaker into the VG:
-
Insert the USB cable into any available USB port on the VG.
-
Avoid wrapping the cable around the VG or crossing the diagnostics cable.
-
-
Review and configure in-cab alerts for voice coaching.
