Note
The Power Bypass Adapter Cable for Vehicle Gateways (VGs) is available in North America and Europe (UK, France, Germany, Denmark).
For vehicles that need an alternative power source, install the Vehicle Gateway (VG) using a Power Bypass Adapter Cable. This accessory, compatible with both VG54 and VG55 models, connects inline with the power/diagnostic harness and VG, allowing a direct battery connection for assets equipped with kill switches.

Follow these steps to install the cable and complete the Vehicle Gateway (VG) installation.
-
Begin the VG installation by following the VG Installation Guide that is specific to your vehicle’s diagnostics cable.
Important
Pause the installation when you reach the step instructing you to plug in the 16-pin diagnostics/power connector.
-
Verify the fuse in the power bypass adapter cable.
-
Open the fuse holder cover and check that the 7.5A fuse is firmly seated.
-
Close the fuse holder cover after verification.
-
-
Prepare and connect the jumper wires to the power bypass adapter cable.
-
Use a crimping tool to connect jumper wires (long enough to reach the battery or power source) to the butt splice connectors.
If desired, use a heat source, such as a lighter, hand torch, or heat gun, to carefully heat the tube along its entire length. Ensure the tube shrinks evenly and forms a tight seal.
-
Ensure the wires are between 18-20 AWG; 18 AWG is recommended to minimize power loss.
-
Identify and connect the wires correctly:
-
PWR (Power) = Red
-
GND (Ground) = Black
-
-
-
Route and connect the jumper wires to the power source.
-
Ensure the power source is 12-24 VDC.
-
Secure the PWR and GND wires to the appropriate battery terminals.
-
-
Complete the Vehicle Gateway (VG) installation.
-
Plug the 16-pin diagnostics/power connector of the diagnostics cable into the 16-pin receptacle of the power bypass adapter.
It will click when fully inserted.
-
Plug the 16-pin diagnostics/power connector of the power bypass adapter into the VG.
-
If the guide instructs you to turn the vehicle off and back on, cycle power to the VG:
-
Unplug the 16-pin connector from the VG.
-
Wait 60 seconds.
-
Plug the 16-pin connector back in.
-
-
Verify the VG is powered and functioning correctly.
