Similar to other third-party cameras, Pelco cameras are not configured through the Samsara dashboard. To connect the camera to Samsara:
-
Install the camera and any additional audio equipment per the manufacturer's instructions.
The Value Dome and Turret Cameras include a built-in microphone. Other Pelco camera models may also support audio recording through the installation of an external microphone. Refer to the manufacturer's specifications.
-
Set an initial username and password for the camera.
Use one of the following methods:
-
By web browser, navigate to the IP address of the camera.
Tip
You can obtain the IP address of the camera using Pelco Camera Configuration Tool.
If DHCP is enabled but a DHCP server is not on the network, the camera will use a standard Zeroconf algorithm to set the IP address in the 169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255 range. To find the camera, you can set up a NIC with an address of 169.254.0.1 and a netmask of 255.255.0.0. Then use any WS Discovery tool to find the camera.
The camera also comes preconfigured with a username of
root
and no password.Note
If you do not set the credentials, you will get an error when you attempt to authenticate to the Samsara dashboard.
-
Proceed to Manually Add a Third-Party IP Camera.
You can use the Camera Configuration Tool to set initial credentials on your cameras and set other configurations. The tool requires a Windows computer.
