To restrict user access to specific cameras, sites, and gateways, you first set up tags and apply them to the relevant devices. Then, when you assign a tag to a user, the user will only be able to view or manage the tagged devices within the scope of the user's role.
For example, you can create parent tags for each of your sites, and then create tags for cameras and Site Gateways depending on their location within a site. Then, you can add all administrators to the tag so that the users can only see a specific site. This includes dashboards and any information related to cameras and Site Gateways that are included in the parent site.
-
Select the Settings icon ( ) at the bottom of your Sites menu to view dashboard settings.
-
In Organization Settings, select Tags.
-
Select + Create a Tag.
-
Enter a descriptive Name for the tag.
-
(Optional) If desired, you can nest the tag under a parent tag group. A tag for a parent asset will also give users access to all of the child assets within it. To do so, select Nest this tag under and choose the parent tag from the drop down.
-
Choose the cameras, gateways, and sites for which you want to associate with the tag.
-
Save the tag.
The tag is now available for assignment.
To use tags to restrict visibility and management operations, you can create a tag-based user from the Tags page. Tags can be combined in several combinations so that a user has Standard Admin access for a single Tag and Read-Only Admin access for the Entire Organization. Users with custom roles who are assigned a tag may have some limitations.
To create a tag-based user:
-
Select the Settings icon ( ) at the bottom of your Sites menu to view dashboard settings.
-
In Organization Settings, select Tags.
-
Click Add user to tag.
-
Enter the Email Address for the user account.
-
Select the Role from the drop-down and review the permissions associated with that role.
-
Save the user.
