Note
Mobile Usage detection is currently in beta and is supported with CM32 dash cameras.
To enable you to coach drivers on distractions while driving due to mobile usage, Samsara AI can detect and report mobile usage while driving.
To begin receiving alerts, you must first enable Mobile Usage detection in Settings () > Fleet > Safety > Event Detection > Policy Violations.
Policy Violations can be enabled for your entire fleet or on a per-vehicle basis. You can also optionally enable in-cab audio alerts to alert drivers to unsafe driving behaviors. After you enable detection Samsara AI begins analyzing driver behavior for the selected policy violations.

Samsara analyzes behavior at speeds over the Speed Threshold you configured for Policy Violations (by default 25mph). When Samsara detects the behavior for 2 seconds or more, the camera records a 2 second video clip of the event with a red box around the object that triggered the detection. You can modify the Policy Violation speed threshold to 5mph, 10mph, 25mph, and 35mph.

Note
While the feature is in beta, automatically-detected events will not be included in Reports or the Safety Score.
The Vehicle Gateway uploads a maximum of 3 events per hour to the Safety Inbox per driver, and a daily maximum of 8 events per driver per event type. When the event arrives in the Safety Inbox, it is labeled with the event type.
The in-cab audio alerts play a Put down phone message, and will continue to play in-cab whenever the trigger thresholds are met, even if outside of the event maximums will play no more than once every 10 seconds. Policy Violation video uploads are also rate limited to once every 30 seconds.
If desired, you can also configure text alerts for Policy Violations from the Alerts page.
