Before you follow the steps to upgrade your Vehicle Gateway (VG) from a VG34 to VG54, review the following resources:
-
Learn more about the differences and similarities across Vehicle Gateway Models.
-
Review the VG34 and VG54 Data Sheet for device specifications.
- Pairing gateway data after replacing gateways.
To replace the VG:
-
Install the new Vehicle Gateway and identify the cables you will need.
To complete the install, you must determine the right cable for your VG model and vehicle.
VG34s use B-Class cables, while VG54s use C-Class cables. Examples:

If you use a diagnostic hub with the VG34, set it aside as you will not need it with the VG54.
From a technical standpoint, VG34 + Diagnostics Hub + C-Class cable = VG54. The VG54 now has a built-in vehicle diagnostics hub so there is no need for an additional accessory with the VG54.
-
Obtain the appropriate Camera Connectors for use with the VG54.

- Pair the data from the old gateway to the new gateway.
-
Return the old hardware to Samsara if a return is authorized. For more information, see https://www.samsara.com/support/hardware-warranty.
If the faulty hardware is not eligible for return, dispose of it properly in accordance with your local recycling process. As the VGs contain lithium batteries, it is recommended to observe the local guidelines for battery and electronic waste disposal and take care when handling them. To find the right recycling guidelines for your area, consult your local Recycling Center.
