Note
This exemption is compatible only with drivers running the Federal Property ruleset.
In addition, do not enable this exemption for drivers if they already have the Short Haul Air-Mile Exemption.
If a driver is eligible, you can allow the driver to claim the 16-Hour Short-Haul Exemption (Big Day) §395.1(o). Claiming this exemption has the following effects:

Increases driver shift time from 14 hours to 16 hours for the day

A banner displays on the HOS log to highlight the exemption

Claimed and unclaimed events will add a remark in the HOS log

After you enable the 16-Hour Short Haul exemption for a driver, the Samsara Driver App provides a custom shift dial to provide visibility to the driver and applies the exemption to the shift. The Samsara Driver App provides the following driver experience for a 16-Hour Exemption:

To claim the exemption, from the Daily Log the driver taps 16-Hour Short-Haul exemption and selects the time within the shift to apply the exemption. The exemption can only be claimed during the cycle it is applied.

The exemption displays as a remark in the Daily Log and in the DOT Inspection log.

Instead of a 14:00 hour shift dial, the shift dial displays a 16:00 hour dial.
