Please note that this feature is in Beta and is not yet available to all customers. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager, or the Technical Support Team if you would like to test this feature.
This in-cab voice speed alert provides your drivers with immediate feedback to correct speeding violations while driving across roads with different speed limits.
This feature leads to two key benefits for your fleets:
1) Overall reduction in unsafe behaviors
2) Savings in fuel as speeding drivers have a highway MPG that is 2.7% lower than all other drivers
*Please note, we have the ability to provide in-cab alerts for speeding, but only for a fixed speed limit as seen below
Speeding: Driving over the speed limit of the road
CM31 or CM32: Camera model required for this feature
In-Cab Alerts: Audio alerts from the CM31 or CM32 module that provide real-time feedback to drivers to correct unsafe behavior, such as speeding.
How It Works
Enabling This Feature
Once you have worked with you Customer Success member or Support, there are two ways for you to enable this feature:
1) Use bulk edit for select devices.
2) Use the Camera and Safety setting to enable across all devices. For best practice, we recommend larger fleets to first enable with a smaller set of gateways before rolling out to the entire fleet. This will help ensure the threshold is set appropriately.
Option 1: Bulk Edit
To use the bulk edit to enable the in-cab speeding alerts, first select the vehicles you want to enable the alerts for and hit edit:
Next, scroll to the section for “In-Cab Speed Limit Alerts” and select enabled. Once enabled you can configure the threshold for when to alert for speeding.
The two options are:
Fixed amount over the speed limit: The first option is to set the in-cab alert to trigger once the driver exceeds the road’s speed limit by some fixed amount (units in mph or km/h).
Percentage over the speed limit: The second option is to set the in-cab alert to trigger once the driver exceeds a certain percentage above the speed limit.
Time spent over the speed limit before alert: The default value is 10 seconds but as an admin, you are able to configurable. The minimum time threshold is 5 seconds, but we recommend the setting of 10 seconds to reduce false positives when vehicles transition in areas with changing speed limits
Option 2: Camera and Safety Setting
To enable the in-cab speeding alerts across all gateways, you should enable In-Cab Speed Limit Alerts from the Camera and Safety Settings page as seen below:
Once the feature is enabled, the CM31 or CM32 device will play the following sound once your drive has exceeded the speed limit for 5 seconds and will repeat every 10 seconds until the vehicle reduces to a speed below the threshold.
To review if an in-cab speeding alert was triggered for a vehicle, simply navigate to the vehicle show page > select trip in question. You will see yellow exclamation marks that show “speeding events” along the vehicle’s trip path.
If a vehicle has been continuously speeding, we will show a single exclamation for every minute the vehicle stays over the speed limit.
To view, the incident report with the vehicle speed and speed limit data select the speed event.
