You can Configure Compliance Settings to define the information that appears in Hours of Service (HOS) reports and to define rules for your drivers. The following table summarizes the HOS settings available for your fleet:
Setting |
Description |
---|---|
Carrier Information |
If you need to override the carrier information with alternate information, you can do so as part of the vehicle settings (Overview > Vehicle > ... > Edit) or driver settings (Settings > Drivers > ... > Edit). Driver overrides take precedence over the fleet-wide settings and vehicle overrides. |
Force Review of Unassigned HOS |
Require drivers to review Unassigned Driving. |
Force Manual Location For Duty Status Changes |
Enabling this will force drivers to enter a location when making a duty status change if the ELD does not automatically record one. When this setting is disabled, drivers will not be prompted for a location when making a duty status change. |
Enable Canada HOS/ELD |
Enable Canada HOS rulesets, exemptions such as Deferral of Off Duty and Adverse Weather, and border check features in the dashboard and Samsara Driver App. For more information, see Compliance for Fleets in Canada. |
Drivers Can Edit Certified Log |
Allow your drivers to edit their HOS logs after certifying them. When this setting is disabled, drivers are not permitted to make changes after certifying and submitting their log. You can suggest carrier edits to HOS logs only after they have been certified by the driver. To see the Samsara Driver App experience, see Edit an HOS Log. |
Allow unregulated vehicles |
Enable this setting to set specific vehicles as unregulated (non-CMV). Samsara will not generate unassigned segments nor trigger the automatic On Duty to Drive duty status transition for unregulated vehicle movements. |
Yard Move Auto Transition |
Automatically transition drivers from Yard Move status to Driving status when vehicle speed is greater than 20 mph (32 km/h). This prevents drivers that use the Yard Move duty status from remaining in the status in situations where Driving status is more appropriate. When the setting is enabled, it applies to all drivers in the fleet that have access to Yard Move, and cannot be applied to specific drivers, vehicles or tags. For more information, see Yard Move (YM). |
Personal Conveyance Auto Transition |
Enable Samara to automatically transition drivers to On Duty Driving status when the driver exceeds the daily allowable Personal Conveyance driving distance (46.5 mi (75 km)). The Samsara Driver App displays a prompt to alert drivers about the transition. After reaching the daily allowance, drivers will not be able to select Personal Conveyance as a duty status for the rest of the day. For more information, see Personal Conveyance (PC). |
Persistent Duty Status |
Give drivers the option to keep their On Duty or Sleeper Berth duty status after signing out of the app. |
