Note: The AG24 asset gateway has recently been updated to AG26 in the US and Canada. All information regarding AG24 support, installation, functionality, and features applies to AG26. Samsara will continue to provide support and updates to the AG24. AG26 will be available later this year for our customers in Mexico and Europe.
You can configure your AG24/26 to check-in it's GPS location at a frequency suitable for your business. If theft or unauthorized use are your primary concerns, you can set the check-in frequency to live or every 30 minutes. Alternatively, if preserving your battery is a higher priority because your assets are at a low risk of theft, you can set a less frequent check-in rate.
You can set up your AG24/26 to check in with the Samsara Dashboard at one of the following intervals:
- 30 minutes
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 6 hours
- 12 hours
- 24 hours
- 48 hours
- 72 hours
Changing the Check-In Rate
1. Go to the Assets page and click on the specific asset to view the Asset Detail Page.
2. On the Asset Detail Page, click the Settings icon (three dots).
3. Within Settings, you will see a field called Check-in schedule and you can select the desired rate from the dropdown under Custom frequency.
4. Select Save and the device will accept the new check-in rate during the next scheduled check-in.
Please note that the AG battery life becomes shorter with more frequent check-ins.
Low Power Backoff Mode
If an AG24/26 is not expected to receive power for some time, as in the case of seasonal powered equipment or trailers in repair, we recommend longer check-in frequencies to prevent battery power loss. For customers that manage a large number of assets, this can be cumbersome to update en masse. This feature automatically sets longer check-in frequencies for AG24/26s that have not received for some time.
If we detect that an AG24/26 has not received power in over 7 days, we will automatically update its check-in frequency to 12 hours if it has a faster check-in frequency. Once the unit receives power again, the check-in frequency will resume to the frequency set in the Unpowered Asset Gateway Check-in Schedule setting.
Frequently Asked Questions (Low Power Backoff Mode)
- Will the frequency set in the Unpowered Asset Gateway Check-in Schedule change?
- The frequency set in Unpowered Asset Gateway Check-in Schedule will not change to 12 hours. The unit's check-in schedule will fall back to the frequency set in that setting once it receives power again.
- Will units with a 24-hour check-in frequency start checking in at a 12-hour frequency?
- No, units with 24-hour check-in frequencies are not affected by this feature.
- How will I know that a unit has started checking in every 12 hours?
- The Fleet Overview page's Gateway section has two statues that can be used to obtain this information:
- Cable Status: If the Cable Status has reported Unpowered for 7 or more days, the unit is expected to start checking in every 12 hours.
- Last connected: The Last Connected section will begin reporting longer than configured check-in times, confirming that the unit is checking in at the 12 hours check-in rate.
