There are a number of ways to implement levels of organization throughout the Samsara dashboard. These tools help with partitioning the dashboard and assigning abilities to specific users. The tools are:
Make sure your Organization Name, Logo, and Timezone are correct:
Admins are users on the account who have access to the Samsara platform. On the admins page, more users can be added to the account by entering their name and email. Roles can also be assigned (see next section) on this page by selecting edit and picking a pre-configured role template.
You will then go to this page:
Roles are templates which can be applied to admins to assign or reduce abilities on the platform. The option to view only, edit only, or view and edit are available on these features. Additional settings can be accessed from drop down menu’s within the specific abilities.
Some of the abilities include:
- Location Data
- View environment page, sensors throughout the dashboard, and sensors in settings
- Edit sensor configurations in settings
- View and download alerts
- Create, edit, and remove alerts
- View data inputs and data outputs
- Create and edit data inputs and data outputs
- Third Party Devices
- View third party device and pin configurations
- Edit third party device and pin configurations
- Create and manage dashboards
- Create and manage control programs and settings
- Organizational Settings
- and more!
To add a role select “Add Role” on the Roles page.
To apply a role, navigate to the Admins page and select a user to edit. Under roles select your newly created custom role
Tagging refers to assigning users to specific groups of data. Users who are assigned to a tag will only be able to see data that also carries this tag.
A tag must be created before it can be assigned. This is done by navigating to tags from the left side menu and selecting “Create a tag”
We are then able to give our tag a name and choose to nest it under other tags. Nesting refers to placing one tag in another tag for a multi-tiered tag structure. Nesting is NOT required to create a tag.
Now that a tag exists, we can add users to the tag. New users can be added to the org through the tag page by selecting “Add User to Tag” and entering their email address. This helps placing users directly into a tag without giving them temporary access to all data on the platform.
