Data Inputs are an important functionality in representing the data that is being received by a Samsara Gateway. Any data picked up by the Industrial Gateway (Samsara environmental sensors, wired serial communications, ethernet/IP, digital/analog inputs) can be configured as their own separate Data Input on the cloud.samsara.com platform. Once a Data Input is properly configured, users can create dashboards, reports and formulas based off of the data being received by the IG device.

For instructions on setting up data sources, follow the instructions on the following articles:
Setting up Data Inputs
Before setting up Data Inputs (Analog/Digital Inputs only): make sure gateway is properly configured to accept those inputs. Navigate to Settings > Gateways and select “Inputs” from the menu of the specific gateway.
To create a new Data Input (Settings > Data Inputs): Select Configure New Data Input and fill out the required fields.
For Source select the appropriate Data Source you are creating a Data Input for*. Depending on the Source you can reference a Gateway Channel, Third Party Pin (PLC), Samsara Sensor or even another Data Input.
Depending on the type of Data Input, you can apply a calculation or formula to best scale or represent your data points. For further information, please reference our article on Formulas and Calculations.
For Data Inputs from Third Party Registers, set the Data Input to “Third Party Pin” and follow the instructions on setting up Data Inputs on our article on Connecting To Third Party Devices.
