If your fleet has vehicles equipped with the CM-22 or CM-32 Dual-Facing Samsara Dashcams, you can use Camera ID to assist you in assigning Unassigned HOS.
Initially, you will have to manually identify drivers to ensure accuracy when lighting, body pose, clothing, and other physical attributes change.
After identifying and assigning a driver 5-10 times to train the Camera ID, Samsara's dash cams will begin automatically recognizing and assigning their names with their faces with high accuracy. You will now see the name of the driver recognized by the dashcam within each driving segment in the column labeled Camera ID:
Now, when selecting Assign for each driving segment, you will notice within the driver selection box a Suggested driver is chosen, identified by Camera ID. (note: driver's face is blurred to protect driver privacy) Select a duty status and click Save to confirm the segment assignment.
Some additional info:
Per ELD mandate, Camera ID does not automatically assign drivers to unassigned HOS segments, therefore admins will still be required to confirm whether the suggested driver is accurately displayed.
If an assigned driver is recognized incorrectly the correct driver will not be able to overwrite existing driver assignments, therefore if a driver logs into the driver app and selects the wrong vehicle, the driver or fleet admin will have to fix that assignment manually.
Assigning a driver to a trip will not automatically assign a corresponding unassigned HOS segment. However, assigning an unassigned HOS segment will assign that driver to any corresponding trip.
