Per ELD mandate, Camera ID does not automatically assign drivers to unassigned HOS segments; therefore, admins are still required to confirm whether the suggested driver is accurate. Assigning a driver to a trip will not automatically assign a corresponding unassigned HOS segment. However, assigning an unassigned HOS segment will assign that driver to any corresponding trip.
Initially, you must manually identify drivers 5-10 times to train the Camera ID and to ensure accuracy due to changes in lighting, body pose, clothing, and other physical attributes.
After training, Samsara dash cams automatically recognize and assign names to driver faces with high accuracy. Each driving segment in the Unassigned HOS report displays the name of the driver recognized by the dashcam within the Camera ID field. You can see the face of the driver to help with bulk assignment or annotation.
Click Assign for a driving segment to view the Suggested driver within the driver selection box, identified by Camera ID. Choose a duty status and click Save to confirm the segment assignment.
If an assigned driver is recognized incorrectly, the correct driver will not be able to overwrite existing driver assignments; therefore, if a driver logs into the driver app and selects the wrong vehicle, the driver or fleet admin must manually correct the assignment.
