You can now customize data retention policies for HOS and DVIR data relevant to U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations for all your vehicles.
To enable custom data retention periods for HOS and DVIR data, please have your primary account owner contact Samsara support. Samsara will then implement your request in the dashboard.
What will be your default data access for HOS and DVIR data if you do not request a custom data retention period?
By default U.S. customers will be able to access HOS and DVIR data for the duration of their customer contract.
Will updating your data retention policy for HOS and DVIR Data permanently delete data?
Any changes to your data retention policy will permanently delete HOS and DVIR data prior to the updated data retention period. Once this change is made, you will not be able to recover this data by setting the retention period back to a longer period of time.
What FMCSA data can I set custom data retention periods for?
You can currently customize FMSCA data retention policies only for HOS and DVIR data in the US.
What custom data retention periods are available for HOS and DVIR data?
For HOS data, you can have a 6-month or at least duration of contract (default) data retention policy. For DVIR data, you can have a 3-month, 6-month, or at least duration of contract (default) data retention policy.
What specific data is included in HOS data with respect to its data retention policy?
HOS data includes all data included in Driver HOS, HOS Violation, HOS Audit, HOS Audit Transfer, and Unassigned HOS reports on the dashboard. Driver association with trips is unaffected.
What specific data is included in DVIR data with respect to its data retention policy?
DVIR data includes all data included in DVIR reports on the dashboard.
When will HOS and DVIR data be deleted according to its custom data retention policy?
Once a custom data retention policy is enabled for HOS and DVIR data, the data outside this retention period is purged every night at 12am UTC.
What does deletion mean with respect to setting custom data retention policies for HOS and DVIR data?
Deletion means permanently removing any HOS and DVIR data outside of the applicable retention period from the entire Samsara cloud including backups. Once deleted, the HOS and DVIR data is not recoverable.
