Samsara’s solution is built with privacy in mind. In all of our product decisions, we take steps to balance your privacy needs against your business needs.
For our cameras, the privacy intrusion of recordings containing PII is balanced by: (i) the safety benefits achieved with the solution, including accident reductions and (ii) the financial benefit of exonerating your drivers when they are not at fault.
We take the following steps to maximize protection of privacy across our camera lines:
- Collect only the data we need to deliver the business benefit; nothing more/
Collect only 24-100 hours of footage on the camera itself; only upload videos to the cloud if there is a harsh event or if you specifically ask for a snippet.
All data not uploaded is deleted after 24-100 hours.
All data is removed from the cloud once the customer license terminates.
Limit access to the data only to people who have a legitimate need to see the footage. You can set permissions and access controls so that only people who need to see the footage are allowed to see it. For example, your safety manager will need to see the footage to do their job, but your maintenance manager does not need to see the footage to do their job - and you can prevent them from accessing them. For more information on how to limit access, please see this article.
