Samsara Cameras (CM12s, CM22s, CM31s, and CM32s) are HD cameras designed to improve fleet safety, exonerate drivers and lower accident-related costs.
Samsara CMs record while the vehicle is driving. For a vehicle to be considered driving, it must be moving at a speed of 5mph or more. Once the vehicle reaches this speed, the camera will start recording.
While recording, a still image is automatically uploaded to the cloud every five minutes. While the camera is recording, users with explicit permissions can initiate Live Stream of road-facing and driver-facing video and in-cab audio.
Note
Select customers will have high-frequency trip stills.
When a driver stops or drops below a speed of 5mph, the camera will continue recording for 10 minutes.
Videos are uploaded and saved during the following circumstances:
-
Safety events: Crash, Harsh Braking, Harsh Acceleration, and Harsh Turning events
-
AI events: Distracted Driving, Tailgating, Forward Collision Warning (beta), and Policy Violations (beta)
-
Other events: Rolling Stops
-
Video Retrieval: Users with Video Retrieval permissions can manually request historical video be uploaded and saved to the Samsara Cloud. The amount of historical footage that is available for retrieval varies by camera model. On CM31 cameras, the past 40 hours of driving time is available for a video request. On CM32 cameras, the past 60 hours of driving time is available for a video request. If desired, you can adjust these default camera settings to further extend total storage capacity in exchange for a decrease in video quality.
-
Live Streaming: Live Streaming footage is only upload and saved to the Samsara Cloud if you specifically request a clip via the Video Retrieval page.
