FAQs regarding roll out of customizable check-in rates for unpowered AGs
For AG customers, we’re excited to announce additional check-in rate options. Now AGs can be configured to check in more frequently if one suspects theft or unauthorized use. Or, configure the AG for fewer check-ins to preserve battery for dormant assets at low risk of theft.
For example, if an operations manager needs insight into their assets every 6 hours, they can customize the settings. If an asset goes missing, they can turn on real-time tracking mode.
The changes made will be reflected the next time device wakes up.
1. The impact on battery life, when check-in rates are changed?
The battery life of an AG will shorten if we increase how often it checks in. For example, changing the check-in rate of AG41 to 6 hours will reduce the battery life to 2 years. Changing it to 1 hour will reduce the battery to 1-2 months. Real-time tracking is the most extreme case. A fully-powered AG will last up to 48 hours in live-tracking mode. This mode should be reserved for emergencies, such as asset theft.
Samsara does not guarantee battery life as battery life depends on external factors like connectivity, temperature etc.
2. Can I check the battery status of my AGs?
Yes, you can. If you click on any asset gateway, it will show you the battery status.
3. What happens when the AG41 runs out of battery?
For AG24: AG24s can recharged when the asset is powered back on. It will take 4-5 hours to recharge the battery to full.
For AG41: You keep your existing license and you can just replace the AG41s with a new one at price of $129.
4. What happens if the AG41 dies but the license still has several months remaining?Does it terminate the license?
The license continues as per initial agreement. The customer should replace the existing AG41 with a one-time hardware cost of $129, and the existing license will continue.
Pro-tip: We have made the AG price-friendly, so you can use real-time asset tracking mode to recover stolen assets without worrying about the cost of replacing AG41s.
