Basic Route Optimization is available from the Dispatch tab, click on Routes select Create New Route page. For help with setting up and scheduling Routes, please refer to our article on Creating a Route.
After entering the jobs you wish to visit, there are two options at the bottom of the screen: Optimize Route and Calculate Departure Times.
The Optimize Route button will determine the order of the jobs that yields the shortest distance traveled while visiting them, while keeping the Start Location and last job fixed. Once the optimal order is determined, it will reference the Time on Site report to determine average stop duration in recent history. It will then take either this average duration (or a default of 30 minutes if no recent data is available) to determine the planned departure time for each job. Travel time between jobs is calculated based on expected traffic conditions for the predicted time of day, and the entire itinerary is built for you automatically. Optimization is available for routes with a maximum of 20 stops.
Calculate Departure Times
The Calculate Departure Times button performs the same functions as Optimize Route without changing the job order. Calculate Departure Times will reference Time on Site, travel time and expected traffic conditions for its route calculations. Jobs are always sorted in chronological order based on planned arrival time, so you can manually re-order jobs by changing their planned arrival times. Once you've arranged the jobs in the order desired, you can use the Calculate Departure Times button to re-plan the timing for the entire route.
After clicking either Optimize or Calculate Departure Times, the Revert button appears at the bottom of the screen. The Revert button returns the route to its original state before clicking either Optimize or Calculate Departure Times.
