When you Install a Vehicle Gateway (VG) on your vehicle, you can view and update the associated asset information from your Samsara dashboard. Available VG settings are dependent on the accessory options installed and the features enabled for your fleet.
To delete the vehicle and remove all historical data from your Samsara dashboard, see Delete a Vehicle. To deactivate the VG and preserve historical data, see Deactivate a Vehicle Gateway (VG).
The following table summarizes the settings you can view or edit for your gateway. Available VG settings are dependent on the accessory options installed and the features enabled for your fleet. To edit these settings, see Edit Settings for an Individual VG.

Name |
The name of the associated vehicle. When you first add a gateway, the Samsara dashboard identifies it by serial number. For ease of management and identification, use descriptive names for your gateways. |
Gateway |
Serial number associated with the gateway. This field is not editable. |
License Plate |
License plate of the paired vehicle. |
Tags & Attributes |
Tags or attributes associated with the vehicle. |
Static Driver Assignment |
Driver manually assigned to the vehicle. To assign a driver from the Samsara dashboard, see Manually Assign a Driver to a Vehicle. |
Aux Input Type |
Auxiliary input usage of the connected device and the associated port number, 1 or 2. Examples include Privacy Buttons, Emergency Lights, and Weight Sensors. For more information, see Auxiliary Inputs for VGs and AGs. |
VIN |
Vehicle identification number (VIN) associated with the paired vehicle. If the value is detected and located in the US public database, the asset make, model, and year will display on the asset details. |
Odometer |
Estimated distance traveled by the vehicle (mi or km) as calculated by GPS from the VG. You can only edit the value if the value is not provided by the vehicle engine control unit (ECU). For more information, see Manually Edit an Odometer Reading. |
Engine hours |
Engine hours reading from the vehicle. This value is typically supplied by the Engine Control Module (ECM) but can also display configurable Synthetic Engine Hours (SEH). SEHs provide a backup input to estimate engine hours for when engine hours can’t be read based on when the engine is running. |
Carrier Name Override |
Alternate carrier settings if different from your default settings. If these fields are blank, the default carrier settings apply. |

Vehicle type to use for Harsh Event Detection (Off, Automatic, Passenger Car, Light Truck, Heavy Duty). |

Vehicle Regulation Mode |
Select the vehicle regulation status for CMV vehicles (Regulated, Unregulated (non-CMV)). For more information, see Unregulated Vehicles (non-CMV). |
Voice Coaching |
The vehicle in-cab voice coaching setting. For more information, see In-Cab Voice Coaching. |
Forward Collision Warning Safety Inbox |

To view or edit the settings for an individual gateway:

Select the Settings icon ( ) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

From within Devices, select Devices > Gateways.

Locate the gateway from the list. To narrow the scope of the results, Search for the gateway or filter the options by Tags or Attributes.

On the device row, click the more actions ( ••• ) menu > Settings.

Edit the device settings and Save to confirm the changes.
