The IFTA Report (Fuel & Energy > IFTA Mileage) displays mileage information that pertains to the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) by Jurisdiction or Vehicle. See IFTA Report for a more detailed overview, otherwise select an FAQ topic below for more information:

Why don't I see the IFTA Report in my dashboard?
You may not be able to see the IFTA Report for the following reasons:
-
Licensing: The IFTA report requires specific licensing. Dependent on your organization's license, you may not be able to see the IFTA Report.
-
Locale: Your dashboard locale must be set to United States or Canada.
-
Role or Permission: Your role needs to have access to the IFTA report.
-
Administrative roles with access to view the IFTA report: Full Admin, Standard Admin, Read-Only Admin, or Read-Only Admin (No-Dashcam Access)
-
Custom roles require the following permission enabled: Essentials > Gateways > View vehicle gateways, asset gateways, industrial gateways, and site gateways

How do I put my fuel purchase information into the Samsara IFTA report?
You can input your fuel purchase information with the following methods:
-
Fuel Card Integration: You can use Fuel Card Integrations with WEX and Fleetcor to automatically import fuel purchases made by your fleet.
-
CSV upload: You can Import Fuel Purchases containing your fuel purchase data through CSV.
-
Driver-submitted Documents and Forms: At this time, Documents and Forms does not automatically populate on the IFTA report. You can upload your fuel receipt Document or Forms data through CSV upload.
-
-
Why are my fuel purchases unverified?
Samsara uses the statuses Verified and Unverified to help you validate the fuel purchases for your fleet. The criteria used for verification are:
-
The vehicle is within 100m of the reported fuel station address.
-
The vehicle was at the fuel station within 10 minutes before or after the reported time.
If either one of these criteria are not met, the purchase is marked as Unverified.
-
-
Will Unverified purchases be included in the IFTA Report's Tax Paid Gallons?
Yes, Unverified purchases are included in the Tax Paid Gallons per jurisdiction.
-
Does Samsara have IFTA APIs?
Visit our developer portal to see our IFTA API endpoints.

Why is the data on the IFTA Report different than other reports?
The IFTA Report is one of three reports that uses a methodology called Standardized Distance. This methodology prioritizes odometer data from your vehicle ECUs and uses GPS distance as a fallback when ECU data is unavailable. This ensures that data across the platform is consistent and accurate.
If you compare the IFTA report to a report that does not use Standardized Distance, you may see some different figures as odometer-derived distances and GPS-derived distances are expected to be slightly different. Vehicle odometers rely solely on the number of revolutions of their tires multiplied by the circumference of that tire, so the values can be negatively affected by poor tire tread, poor road conditions, and other factors. Odometer readings are often around 3% off from GPS-derived values, and can even be 5% off in some cases.
You can see a list of reports that currently leverage Standardized Distance in Standardized Measures: Distance.
The Fuel & Energy Report applies an additional filtering process to improve the accuracy of fuel efficiency calculations. It filters out any missing or under-reported data points, which ensures the results are more precise. This filtering can lead to slightly lower mileage reported in the Fuel & Energy Report compared to the IFTA report. Typically, the difference is very small.
-
Why is my IFTA mileage different compared to last year?
If you deleted vehicles from your dashboard or modified your Data Retention Settings in the last year, the figures you see for previous years may also be different. You can verify if either of these occurred in your Activity Log.
-
Can I include or remove vehicles from the IFTA report?
By default, the IFTA report includes data from all vehicles that have a Vehicle Gateway (VG) installed. If you want to filter out vehicles that you do not need to report to IFTA, we recommend you assign tags to your IFTA vehicles and filtering your report with that tag. If your fleet does not have a VG or the VG did not gather data throughout the year, please reach out to your tax authority to see if you can supplement your IFTA filing with paper logs.
