Determine the appropriate mounting method for the universal bracket:
|
|
Examples of different mounting solutions
-
Identify a suitable mounting location:
-
Choose a horizontal and flat surface.
-
Avoid areas with black coating or dot patterns on the glass.
-
Ensure adequate clearance for Allen key access.
-
Position the device within the windshield wiper sweep. Refer to specific mounting tips for the US and UK.
-
Install the dash cam close to the windshield to avoid glare.
-
If utilizing AI event detection features, follow the dash cam position recommendations for AI Event Detection.
-
-
Install the bracket onto the substrate using #10 fasteners or pop rivets through the AMPS pattern holes.
The holes are specified for a #10 screw clearance fit.
If there is limited surface area, use the two additional holes on the mount to secure the mount to the substrate using #10 fasteners or pop rivets.
-
Proceed to Install the Dash Cam to the Universal Bracket.

Examples of different mounting solutions
-
Install the third-party mounting mechanism as per its instructions:
-
Choose a horizontal and flat surface.
-
Avoid areas with black coating or dot patterns on the glass.
-
Ensure adequate clearance for Allen key access.
-
Position the device within the windshield wiper sweep. Refer to specific mounting tips for the US and UK.
-
Install the dash cam close to the windshield to avoid glare.
-
If utilizing AI event detection features, follow the dash cam position recommendations for AI Event Detection.
-
-
Choose one of the following methods to fasten the universal bracket:
-
Align and secure the AMPS pattern to the third-party mount using screws.
Note
Some third-party mechanisms only use two of the four screws.
-
Fasten the brass ¼-20 insert to the threaded gimbal on the mount.
-
-
Proceed to Install the Dash Cam to the Universal Bracket.
-
Remove the existing mount on the dash cam and set aside the screws.
-
Lightly bend the universal mount arms to allow the dash cam to slide into the serrated tooth interface, and loosely tighten the captive screws (1-2 turns) to allow rotation and vertical adjustment. The screws are intended to stay attached to the universal mount.
Note
The dash cam should be able to rotate, and translate up and down, but no longer be removed from the bracket.
-
Adjust the dash cam to the desired height; checking that it’s vertical and right side up.
The cable should always be pointed upwards.
-
After the camera is oriented in the desired location, tighten the captive screws until snug.
Ensure that the installation torque does not exceed 1 N·m (8.85 lb·in).
-
If necessary for cable management, route the camera cable using the ‘C’ clip and then secure it to the bracket.
-
Connect the dash cam.
-
Run the cable across the top of the windshield.
Secure the cable with cable clips or tuck it under the windshield's glass seal, making sure the placement does not interfere with any vehicle safety systems, such as airbags.
-
Plug the camera into the USB port on the Vehicle Gateway.
For best results, do not wrap the cable around the Vehicle Gateway or route across the diagnostics cable.
-
-
Complete the installation.
-
Turn the vehicle on.
-
Verify installation:
-
Samsara dashboard: See Test Dash Cam Positioning
-
Samsara Fleet App: See Streamline Hardware Installation with the Samsara Fleet App
If all points of interest are not captured (see the following example), use the provided Allen key to loosen the camera before re-adjusting. After all points of interest are captured, use the Allen keys to tighten both mount locking screws and, if applicable, the inward camera locking screw. Do not overtighten.
Note
You may need to take a short trip for the camera to begin recording. A trip is registered when the vehicle reaches 5 mph (8 km/h).
