This feature is in Beta and is not generally available to all customers. To enable and test this feature, enable the feature from Feature Management. Alternatively, you can contact your Customer Success Manager or the Technical Support Team.
The outward-facing dash cam can create a Lane Departure Warning (LDW) safety event if the vehicle crosses a solid yellow or white line, alerting both you and the driver to potentially unsafe driving behavior.
When the dash cam detects an LDW event, it uploads a 10-second video of the detection to the Safety Inbox as a Lane Departure Warning event. By default, LDW events do not impact the driver safety score. To include LDW events in the safety score calculation, Configure a Weight for the behavior.
For an event to surface in the Safety Inbox as a LDW, the following conditions must be met:
-
The vehicle crosses a solid line:
-
The vehicle must cross a solid yellow or white line with more than 50% of the vehicle's center crossing the line.
-
Detection relies on the outward-facing dash cam. If the camera cannot detect lane markings, it will not trigger a warning.
-
-
The vehicle has exceeded the speed threshold:
-
The vehicle must exceed a speed threshold of 35 mph for LDW monitoring to be active.
-
The dash cam does not monitor for LDW events below this speed threshold.
-
To optimize the use of LDW and customize it for your fleet, follow these workflows:
-
Review Event Detection Best Practices: For the most accurate AI Event Detection, review the recommendations and best practices for AI Event Detection and Lane Departure Warning.
-
Customize In-Cab Alerts: By default, in-cab alerts are disabled. When you enable and configure Lane Departure Warning, you can optionally enable in-cab audio alerts and Nudges to notify drivers of detections.
-
Set Notification Alerts: In addition to in-cab audio alerts for drivers, you can also configure alerts to receive email notifications or SMS when an LDW event occurs.
Lane Departure Warning can sometimes trigger false positives or inaccurate alerts. To minimize these inaccuracies, ensure the road is clearly visible to the outward-facing dash cam. Address or remove any items that can impair visibility through the windshield, such as dirt, debris, or glare.
When you opt into the beta for LDW, detection for Rolling Stops and Following distance is automatically enabled, as these are required for LDW detection.
After enabling LDW, you can configure the following in-cab driver notifications:
-
In-Cab Audio Alerts: An audible return to lane message plays after the thresholds are met.
-
Nudges: When you enable in-cab audio alerts, you can also enable this setting to provide drivers with an opportunity to self-correct their behavior in the moment before their safety scores are impacted. For more information about this settings, see In-Cab Nudges™ (Alerts).
When you configure this detection, you can choose which vehicles this setting applies to:
-
All vehicles: Apply to all vehicles in your fleet (Settings ( ) > Safety > AI Event Detection > Lane Departure Warning).
-
Subset of vehicles: Apply to one or more vehicles (for more information, see Safety Settings for Individual Vehicles).
