The Samsara Driver ID Token is a keychain worn by drivers so Fleet Administrators can identify who is driving a particular vehicle without needing to sign into the Samsara Driver App. The Driver ID token communicates with Samsara's Vehicle Gateway (VG) to associate drivers with the vehicles they are operating.
What do Samsara Driver ID tokens track?
Samsara Driver ID Tokens indicate if a driver is in a vehicle with a Samsara VG. It does not track any other location or behavior data.
Driver ID tokens do not log hours of service. If you require drivers to log Hours of Service (HoS) or are subject to the ELD mandate, the Samsara Driver App should be used.
Assigning your Samsara Driver ID Tokens:
Before assigning your Driver ID tokens, your tokens will need to be activated.
First, to activate your driver ID tokens, select Settings > Gateways > + Activate Devices. Enter the token serial names.
Once the tokens have been activated, you can assign them to specific drivers. To assign a Driver an ID token, in the Samsara Dashboard, navigate to Settings > Drivers > +Add Driver.
Alternatively, to assign a Driver ID Token to an existing driver, select Edit to the right of the driver's name.
From the Driver Setup page, use the Driver ID search bar to search for and select the token number that will be assigned to the driver.
Once the token is assigned, the driver should carry their token on them when they are driving a vehicle in the fleet.
Note: For best results, please ensure that the active driver has their Driver ID Token nearest to the VG if the vehicle has more than one occupant with a token.
