The Samsara Driver ID Token is a keychain worn by drivers so you can identify who is driving a particular vehicle without the driver needing to sign into the Samsara Driver App. The Driver ID token communicates with a Samsara Vehicle Gateway (VG) to associate drivers with the vehicles they operate.
Samsara Driver ID Tokens indicate if a driver is in a vehicle with a Samsara VG. The token does not track any other location or behavior data, nor do they log hours of service. If you require drivers to log Hours of Service (HoS) or your drivers are subject to the ELD mandate, use the Samsara Driver App instead.
Before assigning your Driver ID tokens, your tokens will need to be activated. After the token is assigned, drivers should carry their token when they are driving a vehicle in the fleet.
Note
For best results, ensure that an active drivers has the Driver ID token nearest to the VG if the vehicle has more than one occupant with a token.
